This Shipping Policy describes how we ship your orders and applicable shipping rates and delivery times.

1. Shipping Methods and Costs

Northern Tool offers a range of shipping methods and delivery times to meet your needs:

Standard Ground Shipping

Our standard ground shipping method is free on orders over $49 shipped within the contiguous US. For orders under $49, standard shipping is $6.99.

With standard ground, orders typically ship out same-day if placed by 2 pm CT M-F and are delivered within 5-7 business days. Transit days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Some oversized items have a shipping surcharge applied due to extra costs of delivery. Surcharges are calculated at checkout.

Expedited Shipping

For faster delivery, we offer expedited shipping for an additional cost. Options include:

Expedited orders placed by 2 pm CT M-F will ship out same day. Expedited shipping cutoff times may vary for some products like generators – check individual product pages for details.

Pickup In Store

Many products are available for in-store pickup at one of our retail locations. Orders are typically ready within 1 hour. Pickup is free.

Commercial Delivery

Bulk commercial deliveries scheduled by our logistics team may have additional charges for lift-gate service, inside deliveries, or other special accommodations. These costs offset the additional services provided beyond basic curbside delivery.

2. Shipping Restrictions

We do not ship to PO Boxes, APO/FPO/DPO addresses, or international destinations outside the contiguous US. Certain products have other shipping restrictions due to regulations or delivery challenges – see individual product pages for restrictions.

Oversize items requiring truck delivery such as large compressors, lifts, trailers, etc may have regional shipping restrictions. Check product pages for available delivery areas.

3. Delivery Time Estimates

Estimated delivery times are based on the shipping method chosen and your delivery address. Delivery times are estimates only – actual delivery may be earlier or later than estimated.

Factors Affecting Delivery Times

Several factors can impact actual delivery times, including:

We rely on shipping partners for delivery and are unable to guarantee delivery by a specified date or time, even if expedited shipping is selected.

4. Order Shipping Confirmation

You will receive a shipment confirmation email with carrier tracking information when your order ships. Use the carrier website to track your package’s progress.

Tracking information may not be active until the day after the order ships. Check back if tracking is not yet updating.

Some items ship without a tracking number since they do not require signature confirmation of delivery.

5. Lost or Delayed Packages

If tracking shows no delivery activity for 7 or more days since shipment, the package may be lost. Contact us immediately and we will work with the carrier to locate your order or initiate a replacement shipment.

For expedited shipments, if tracking shows no delivery activity for 3 or more days since shipment, contact us immediately so we can investigate.

We will make every reasonable effort to locate lost packages and get a replacement shipment processed quickly. Carrier delays due to weather, mechanical disruptions or other factors are outside of our control.

6. Damaged or Missing Items

Sometimes damage or loss can occur during transit. If you receive an order that is visibly damaged on delivery:

If items are missing from an order upon delivery, double check packaging materials to confirm the items were not overlooked. If items were expected but not received, report the discrepancy immediately and we will investigate and ship replacements.

In some cases, we may require customers to start a claim process directly with the carrier before issuing replacements for lost, missing or damaged items.

7. Receiving Large Items

Larger items like generators, pressure washers, compressors, log splitters, etc. are shipped via freight carriers who will deliver the item curbside on a truck. The customer is responsible for offloading the item at their location.

For home deliveries, adult signature is required upon delivery to inspect for damage prior to carrier departure. Ensure you are physically able to unload the item or have the help needed to unload before delivery. The carrier cannot assist with unloading.

For commercial deliveries, the receiving company must provide the equipment and labor needed to safely unload the delivery. The carrier is responsible only for curbside delivery.

If you are unable to be present for a scheduled delivery appointment, contact us immediately so we can reschedule or make other arrangements. Failure to receive a scheduled delivery may result in additional fees to reschedule.

8. Pickup Orders

For pickup orders, you will receive a Ready for Pickup email when your order is prepared at the store. Arrive at the store during regular business hours, park in a designated pickup spot, and call the store phone number provided in your Ready for Pickup email. A store employee will load your order into your vehicle.

Bring a copy of your order receipt, pickup email, or order number. Only the person who placed the order can pick it up – have ID ready for verification.

Most pickup orders should be retrieved within 3 days of being made ready for pickup. Orders not picked up after 2 weeks are subject to return and refund.

9. Returning Orders

If you need to return an order for any reason, we make returns easy. See our Returns Policy for detailed instructions.

In some cases, you may be responsible for return shipping costs for bulky, heavy, or oversized items. We will provide a prepaid return shipping label where we cover costs.

You are also welcome to return most orders FREE via drop off at any Northern Tool retail location if more convenient.

10. Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and US Territories

We ship to all 50 states plus Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Northern Mariana Islands.

Due to high carrier surcharges for these destinations, a $20 shipping fee applies to orders under $99. Order minimums for free shipping are also higher:

11. Tax on Shipping Costs

Applicable sales tax applies to shipping costs and is collected on the full order total for shipments to addresses in IL, MI, MN, PA, SD, WA, and WI. No sales tax on shipping for other states.

12. Changes to Shipping Policy

Northern Tool may update this shipping policy at any time in our sole discretion. We will provide notice of material changes on our website or via email. You are advised to check for updates periodically. Continued use of our services after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
